Dear Fellow Cancer Patient:
No one likes to read a long letter, but maybe this will help you have a better chance to conquer your cancer and improve the quality of your life. I Bloch, Dick. In March, 1978 I was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and given three months to live by an extraordinary physician. I am now healthy, cancer free, and devote myself together with my wife, Annette, to help the next person with cancer has the best chance of beating it. I’m not saying you can have the same success to me, but if you try, you have a chance.
The single largest and most difficult you will be asked to do in the whole battle is to make your mind to really fight it. You must, on your own, make a commitment that you will do everything in your power to fight disease. There are no exceptions. There is no halfway. There is no for the sake of convenience or comfort. Everything! Nothing short. When you do this, you have completed the most difficult thing you have to finish the whole entire treatment. And I do not care how serious or how small you are led to believe your cancer.
If mild, good. Your commitment should not be difficult to comply. If you say you will die within three months or three years or whatever, then make that commitment is far more important. There are many “terminal” people alive, healthy and free of cancer. Neither type of cancer from several people that have not healed. Neither type of cancer that there is no treatment.
To surrender does not require a commitment. You can stay in the comfort of your own lifestyle. Struggling means a complete change of lifestyle, really leaving your comfort zone. There will be doctors doing things that may not like. There will be plenty of work to do. There may be pain and suffering, and of course, many new and unexpected experience. You must decide that ultimately means for you is worth only one who can do it. Nobody else can do it for you. There is no half way. Overall road. But now it’s all said and done, no matter what the result, I’ve never met anyone who felt it was not the best way. Do it without a second thought or remorse.
Remember, once you’ve made the commitment, everything else is relatively easy. There’ll be fun experience. There will be an unpleasant experience. But I can promise is not as difficult as making a decision to make a commitment.
The next step you must take is to acquire knowledge. You, personally, should be able to find out all about your disease. When you try, you’ll be amazed how simple and exciting, and I assume you do not have the background of medical care. First and foremost, speak with your personal physician who diagnosed you. Be sure to record or write all the answers. You are not professionals and you will be confused and forgotten. After a while, you’ll be amazed by what you understand. And remember, this is your life. Not your doctor, it is the others do not. If you want help, you should help yourself first. Then you can rely on others to help you.
Find out what type of cancer you should be. This will include the type, stage, grade, location, size, distribution, receptors, differentiation, and virulence, the type of care it receives, type of treatment your doctor sure did not accept, and whatever your doctor can tell you. PDQ, written in understandable English, will provide much information about your illness. This will tell you how and what the overall statistics, which was staged at some stage you. Remember, you are not statistics. If you are successful, chances are you were 100%, if you do not, they are 0%. There is no in between.
Examination is a beautiful thing. For the purposes of discussion here, there are two fundamental types of trials. First, there are trials for experimental treatments are generally difficult types of cancer. This procedure is to usually start with the state-the-art-therapy. If this fails, you switch to the next line of defense. If it fails, then go to your third line, etc. After all the standard therapy has been exhausted, went to an experimental therapy. Clinical trials conducted at the time there is a strong possibility that this new approach will improve the treatment of cancer. Each clinical trial offers you the chance to live. He worked on the drawing board. Maybe it can work with you. You have nothing to lose.
The second type of experiment is random or sometimes called a double blind experiment. Here there is a difference between the two or three types of treatment or dosage or methods and desired to know any better. Absolutely no one can say with certainty that one is better than another. So they are asking individuals to volunteer where they have no real preferences, and receive one of the methods, perhaps without the knowledge they receive. Then the results are monitored to know better. For example half of the participants may receive a dose every month and the other half might receive a fourth dose of each week to see the group is no better. Maybe half will receive their treatment in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. Either way, what you have to do is maybe help those who come after you, and not by way of hurting yourself. Patients who participated in the test have the opportunity to receive the most advanced available treatments – both new treatment or best standard therapy. If the new treatment is successful, the study is the first patient benefit; and they have the satisfaction of helping themselves and others.
Assuming your doctor is not board certified oncologist (a specialist in cancer treatment only), because very rarely diagnose cancer oncologist, a request that he call an incoming Talk to your doctor and get the same information. Again, be sure to write all the answers. If you relate well qualified doctors and he believes he can successfully treat you, have complete faith in him and do everything recommended.
If you can not relate well to this doctor or not have faith in him or he does not believe that you can be successfully treated, went looking for a second opinion is correct. That means leaving the comfort of your original doctor and the hospital and go across the street or across town with a different medical system. The best thing you can do for yourself will be the opinion of the “two multidisciplinary”. This is one of the institutions given to you by 1-800-433-0464. There you will be allowed to sit with family and friends and hear your case reviewed by independent experts of each type of cancer drug. They will tell you everything about your illness and answer the questions you or your family have openly and honestly. You’ll hear all your options.
If you can not get a second opinion multidisciplinary, found a second oncologist really far from your doctor or hospital right now. Get the same information from him. If again you get the impression that these doctors can not successfully treat you, you’re not through.
Using the PDQ protocol, find out who did the work most in this type of cancer you are and call them on the phone explaining your problem. Ask them straight out if they believe they can successfully treat you. You may successfully treat a particular disease does not mean you heal. Maybe “control”, might be pardoned, may be held in place without getting worse. It’s amazing how one qualified specialists who can accomplish the things that less skilled individuals who do not believe can be done. With the aid of your phone finds the most skilled experts who believe that he could do the most advantageous for you and then go to he sure that is what you want. Then you place all faith and effort by individuals to help them achieve what they have set out to do it for you.
If you follow our advice, at first you do the most difficult in the entire battle – you make a commitment to do everything. Second, you get yourself the best medical attention. Now it is time to rationally plan the remaining actions necessary to complete your commitment. You want to do everything and leave nothing out that might help.
There’s a saying that it takes 6 points to beat cancer. First is the best treatment. Second is the best medical care. Third, fourth and fifth was the best medical care. The sixth is the mental attitude positive. Without all six, you do not have a chance. But look at it in perspective and relative importance. A positive mental attitude is not to bury heads in the sand and say ‘”I’ll be okay.” This is to do your next hard drugs to help restore self.
That everything “” is really read and digest the book, “Fighting Cancer” that you receive via phone 800-433-0464. It is written in plain English to help you understand your disease and do everything in your power to help you fight it. The final chapter is a checklist. Make sure absolutely sure that you have reviewed each item in the last chapter. This is to benefit anyone, but your own. This is your life.
Combating cancer is not an easy thing to think positively, wishing it away and say, “Hey, doc, heal me.” It is a matter of knowledge. This is a matter of educating yourself about every detail and the willingness of all your resources. Use every drop of energy with an organized way to constructively concentrate rid of cancer. Most cancers can be overcome, but you generally only have one chance. If you missed it the first opportunity, if you’re not doing everything in your power, there is often no second chances. This is why cancer patients can not afford the luxury of looking back and saying, “I hope I will ….” Do not ever look back. Concentrating on the current forward and do everything in your power. There is no risk of loss. Now you might have a chance.
